12th Annual A Better Beginning Conference for Novice and Mentor Teachers, Administrators

About 500 educators from the region and a few from as far away as Kentucky will attend the 12th annual A Better Beginning Conference (ABC Conference) at UTEP Saturday, Oct. 15, from 7:30 a.m.-2 p.m. at Union Building East. “Innovative and Diverse Perspectives in Education: Voices from the Field” is the theme of this year’s conference that is designed to support novice and mentor teachers and administrators to enhance their skills. The event, organized by UTEP’s College of Education, includes workshops, concurrent sessions, poster presentations, roundtable discussions and the presentation of the novice and mentor Teachers of the Year.

The conference’s keynote speaker is Matt de la Peña, a best-selling young adult author who earned a 2016 Newbery Medal for “Last Stop on Market Street.” The Brooklyn, New York-based writer/educator also has received a Caldecott Honor and a Coretta Scott King Illustrator Honor Book in 2016.
