In UTEP History

Monsoon rains in El Paso inundate the campus, causing over four feet of water to flood the basement of the library (now Geological Science)(Aug. 19, 1978), A record number of students registered for classes resulting in Unknownincreased budget revenue of more than ten percent for the university (Aug. 20, 2004), The first class of Peace Corp volunteers graduates from TWC. Their first assignment is the East-African nation of Tanganyika (now Tanzania).  (Aug. 21, 1961), Gubernatorial candidate Kinky Friedman visits the UTEP campus (Aug. 22, 2006)

Recent Activities

On Campus - The first Bhutan on Campus Walking Tour was held Aug. 16. Participants toured the UTEP campus and learned about the university’s rich history with the Kingdom of Bhutan. The next tour will take place Aug. 23 at 11 a.m. An exhibit about Bhutan also opened at the Centennial Museum on Aug. 16. The exhibit titled, “Bhutan: Jewel of the Himalayas” features photography by renowned photographer Mark Paulda.

In the Community - The UTEP Alumni Association Golf Tournament was held Aug. 15 at Butterfield Trail Golf Club. Nearly 100 players participated in the event.

Enter the Centennial Photo Contest - You can now enter your photo in the Centennial Photo Contest. The winning photographs will go on display inside the Centennial

Museum as part of the “Centennial Photo Contest” exhibit. The exhibit will be on display from Nov. 8 to Jan. 15, 2015. To submit your photographs, and read official rules click HERE.

Mark Your Calendar– Enjoy a magical evening that incorporates Bhutanese music, dance and other cultural elements with Handel’s “Acis and Galatea” – the first Western opera ever performed in the mountain Kingdom of Bhutan. Celebrating UTEP’s century of connection with the Land of the Thunder Dragon, this international collaboration includes world-class dancers, vocalists, and talented music students from UTEP who will enchant and delight the audience during this once-in-a-lifetime experience. This magical event will take place on Aug. 30 at 6 p.m. at the Don Haskins Center.

Centennial Night at the Chihuahuas - Join the El Paso Chihuahuas as they celebrate UTEP Centennial Night  Aug. 28. The first 2,000 with paid entry will receive a Don Haskins bobblehead.  Tickets can still be purchased HERE.
