Campus Community to Celebrate ” El Grito”

WEBGRITOThe campus community will celebrate “El Grito” Thursday, September 15 at 11:30 a.m. at
UTEP Union Plaza.

The commemoration of the Mexican cry for independence, originally called “Grito de Dolores” and now commonly known as El Grito, was first organized in 1825 and is typically celebrated Sept. 15 or 16 each year to celebrate the Mexican War of Independence started Sept. 16, 1810. Started as a student event approximately 17 years ago, the El Grito celebrations at UTEP have been supported by various offices and departments at the University.

This year’s civil ceremony will be led by Consul General of Mexico Marcos Bucio with the Banda de Guerra y Escolta from the Instituto Tecnologico de Ciudad Juárez and will include remarks from President Diana Natalicio and performances by Ballet Folklorico Quetzales and Mariachi Frontera.
