This prestigious designation adds to the value of the outstanding learning experience students receive at UTEP, said Giorgio Gotti, Ph.D., associate professor of accounting and department chair.

“This partnership will ensure a growing number of internships, co-op jobs and first career moves in internal auditing for our students,” Gotti said. “At the same time it will benefit firms from the region that will find locally well prepared and knowledgeable internal auditing graduates.”

The IAEP was developed to respond to the growing interest in internal audit education at institutions of higher learning. Schools accepted into the program have gone through a rigorous application process and are monitored by the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Academic Relations Committee. UTEP, the local IIA chapter and the IIA will work together to ensure the program’s success and maintain a high quality of academic excellence and student-faculty interaction with the goal of producing high-quality graduates who are competent in internal auditing.

“Participation in the IAEP program identifies UTEP as a forward-thinking university that recognizes the importance of the internal audit profession as a career choice,” Mary Persson, selection committee chair, said in the IIA acceptance letter. “UTEP is to be commended for including internal audit education in its academic curriculum.”

The IIA, based in Altamonte Springs, Florida, is an international professional organization established in 1941. It has more than 185,000 members.
