Miner Welcome Offers Week of Activities

The first day of classes for the fall 2016 semester at UTEP is Monday, Aug. 22. A variety of welcome back activities are planned through the Office of Student Life. The “Miner Welcome” is two weeks of high energy, fun-filled events and activities. The first week ends with Minerpalooza.

“We plan Miner Welcome in order to create a welcoming and engaging environment for students during the first week of a new semester,” said Mallory Garcia, event services coordinator for the Office of Student Life. “Whether we are welcoming new incoming students to their first semester at UTEP or welcoming retuning students to a new semester, we want to allow students to get started on the right foot. Our goal is to promote student engagement from the very first day of classes and show students what type of college experience they can look forward to at UTEP.”

Among the activities planned are “Chill Fest” on Wednesday, Aug. 24, when Centennial Plaza will be populated with inflatable games and a water slide. There will be Fruitiki bars and attendees can learn about student organizations and campus departments that will be set up around the plaza.

Throwback Thursday on Aug. 25 in the Union Plaza will include free Miner Welcome T-shirts that students can tie-dye on site and the Beatles United Tribute Band playing from noon – 1 p.m.
