Nursing Associate Professor Awarded National Fellowship

H. Sabrina Kao, Ph.D., associate professor in the UTEP School of Nursing, is one of 163 nursing leaders in the United States selected as a 2015 fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (AAN).

Kao – a senior fellow with UTEP’s Hispanic Health Disparities Research Center – will be inducted into the AAN on Oct. 17, 2015 during the academy’s annual policy conference, “Transforming Health, Driving Policy,” in Washington, D.C.

Kao has been with UTEP since 2008. She has published more than 20 peer-reviewed publications on subjects related to family caregiver burden, family values and cultural diversity in Hispanic families of chronically ill older adults.

In 2015, Kao was recognized with the J. Edward and Helen M.C. Stern Endowed Professorship in Nursing at UTEP.

The academy fellows, with the addition of this newest class, represent all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and 24 countries.

The academy includes more than 2,300 nurse leaders in education, management, practice, policy and research. Academy fellows include hospital and government administrators, college deans and renowned scientific researchers.
