Samples of the concrete sidewalks, concrete benches, decomposed concrete paths and landscaped acequias (natural water conduits) for Centennial Plaza will be built at the corner of University Avenue and Hawthorne Street to show the University community what they will look like. They will go through an approval process before the actual landscaping work begins.

Contractors also have begun to build a rock wall in front of Union Building West that will rise to 17 feet at its tallest point. The rocks used were mined from the property. The mounds of dirt will be moved to start the rough grading. The soil will be taken temporarily to a site on the north end of campus. Much of it will be used on the student housing complex site.
