Gov. Beauford Jester signs the bill approving the name change to Texas Western College following passage by the 51st Legislature (May 20, 1949).

Recent Activities
On Campus – A finals week tradition was “eggs”tra special as UTEP’s Department of Residence Life hosted Midnight Breakfastival at a new location in honor of the University’s Centennial Celebration. Approximately 2,000 students attended the event.
Commencement -More than 2,800 graduates and candidates were eligible to participate in the University’s 132nd commencement exercises, marking the largest graduating class in UTEP’s 100-year history.
Community – The Braden Aboud Memorial Foundation held its annual Run/Walk and honored UTEP’s Centennial Celebration by turning Orange this year. An estimated 8,600 participants attended the event. The Border Museum Association began the Sixth Annual Museum Scavenger Hunt. This year’s theme is “Centennial Connections,” in honor of the 100 years of UTEP history. Participants have two months to visit the museums and find the mystery objects. This year’s Hunt includes two dozen museums in the El Paso/Las Cruces/Cd. Juárez border region.
