University Avenue Lane Closed for Drainage Work

Motorists who enter and exit The University of Texas at El Paso via University Avenue near Oregon Street should know that a storm drainage improvement project will start at 7 a.m. Monday, July 6, 2015, and it will impact traffic flow for approximately five weeks.

A portion of the right westbound lane beyond the traffic control station near the arroyo will be closed initially for some demolition and installation of concrete pipe. The contractor plans to change directions and work on the eastbound side of the street during the last two weeks of July. At that time, a portion of the right eastbound lane will be closed.

University Avenue will remain open during construction. There will be signs to direct pedestrian traffic and a flagman will be on site.

The new drainage system will capture 80 to 90 percent of storm water that rushes onto campus from Mesa and Oregon streets via University Avenue.
