As The University of Texas at El Paso celebrates 100 years of access and excellence, teams of students, staff, faculty and alumni will spread the excitement to future Miners who will one day be part of the new higher education model.

“UTEP is El Paso’s University,” said UTEP Vice President for Student Affairs Gary Edens, Ed.D. “We are thrilled to celebrate our Centennial with students throughout the region, to emphasize that they should dream big and continue their education.”

More than 183,760 students in 12 school districts in TEA Region 19 will hear a 30-minute college-going message that will highlight the multitude of educational opportunities UTEP offers, as well as its Centennial celebration.

“EPISD welcomes UTEP into our schools and thanks the University for promoting the college spirit and enthusiasm for higher learning to our student body,” said El Paso Independent School District Superintendent Juan Cabrera. “The relationship between UTEP and EPISD is valuable for our community. We look forward to celebrating educational milestones with UTEP for years to come.”

Nearly 1,050 UTEP students, alumni, faculty and staff will have covered 5,095 square miles and presented at 251 schools in the region by the end of the day Friday, Oct. 3.

Volunteers were welcomed by Socorro Independent School District schools Thursday, Sept. 25.

“We are honored to help UTEP celebrate 100 years of outstanding educational opportunities for this community,” said SISD Superintendent José Espinoza. “As Team SISD works hard to prepare our students for college and careers, this partnership with UTEP is an excellent way to increase our students’ awareness and enthusiasm about continuing their education at a university. The presentations and excitement that the UTEP staff and students shared with our students strengthen our efforts at college and career readiness and home, school and community partnerships.”

Members of the media are invited to capture UTEP President Diana Natalicio and Paydirt Pete at the pep rallies, and hear the cheerleaders, bands, DJs, school spirit and UTEP support at the following campuses:
8:30 a.m. – Hillcrest Middle School
10:45 a.m. – Canutillo Elementary School
1 p.m. – El Paso High School
