Arrieta was lauded for his poster “Comprehensive Modeling of Cellular Solids Fabricated by Electron Beam Melting.” His study focuses on how 3-D printing technologies such as electron beam melting — manufacturing parts by melting metal powder layer by layer with an electron beam — and selective laser melting — creating 3-D parts by fusing fine metal powders together — are empowering individuals to create new material with exemplary performance.

The 2015 MSC conference brought together thought leaders in the automotive and machinery industries from all over the globe to present their most innovative products and learn the roadmap for MSC’s next-generation computer-assisted engineering (CAE) technology.

“This award is not only a recognition of Edel’s excellent work and capabilities, but also of UTEP’s cutting-edge infrastructure that allows for the development of state-of-the-art research,” said Cesar Carrasco, Ph.D., professor and chair of the Department of Civil Engineering.
