EL PASO, Texas – During the month of October, The University of Texas at El Paso’s Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution (OSCCR) will offer a series of events related to preventing and addressing domestic violence. The programs will be open to the community, but directly targeted to the students, staff and faculty at UTEP.
The four events offered – “The Mask You Live In” film and discussion, Light the Night Purple workshop and fair, Paint UTEP Purple: Advocacy Fair, and a healthy relationships workshop – are designed to teach the campus community how to address or report domestic violence issues.
“The Mask You Live In” film will be shown at 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13 in the University Library’s Blumberg Auditorium. It will be followed by a peer-led discussion.
The UTEP Counseling Center will present the Smart Love: Healthy Relationships 101 workshop at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19 to offer the campus community practical tips to have healthy relationships. The workshop will be held in Union Building East, Elkins Room 314.
The “Paint UTEP Purple” advocacy fair will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20 in the Union Plaza with an encore event at Miner Village called “Light the Night Purple” from 6-8 p.m.
“The events will be informative, engaging, interactive, and hopefully will not only bring awareness to domestic violence, but action,” said OSCCR Coordinator Arely Hernandez. “I hope to see our students engaged, enthusiastic, willing to volunteer and wanting to get involved by bringing awareness of this important issue.”
UTEP groups and community organizations, including Psi Chi, the Military Student Success Center, the Center Against Sexual and Family Violence, along with various departments within the Division of Student Affairs collaborated to create these engagement opportunities for the UTEP community throughout the month.
