UTEP to Announce Results of Ambitious Centennial Campaign

UTEP will announce the final results of its At the Forefront: The Centennial Campaign for UTEP at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 2, at the Undergraduate Learning Center Plaza.

The University’s most ambitious fundraising campaign to date was launched in 2010 with a goal of raising $200 million by the end of its Centennial Celebration in 2014.

UTEP President Diana Natalicio, backed by approximately 150 UTEP students, will share some of the interesting facts behind the numbers to explain the depth and breadth of community participation of this successful campaign.

UTEP Professor’s ‘Bugs’ Introduce Kindergarteners to Higher Ed

In an effort to expand on the academic and professional aspirations of young El Pasoans, UTEP will host approximately 20 kindergarten students from Ramona Elementary School from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, starting in Room 100 of the Education Building.

During the Kinder Future Leaders Adventure, students will meet Ron Wagler, Ph.D., associate professor of science education and director of UTEP’s Living Arthropod and Environmental Education Laboratory, and have access to many of his collection of bugs to include the Madagascar hissing roaches and varieties of tarantulas, centipedes and scorpions.

The goal of the adventure program developed by Ramona’s kindergarten dual-language teacher Ana Tinajero is to broaden the minds of the children, many of whom are from humble backgrounds, by introducing them to community leaders and interesting careers that are not part of their everyday lives.
