UTEP MEDIA TIP SHEET – WEEK OF MAY 19, 2014

Story Idea:

Peyton Foundation Presents Scholarship Checks to UTEP Students

•         A new partnership between the Mary L. Peyton Foundation and UTEP is making it possible for current undergraduate students to continue their education. Fifty-nine students will receive a total of $67,000 to pay off outstanding tuition bills. Students were chosen via an application process that determined which students were receiving other sources of financial support and still had tuition balances for the Spring 2014 semester. Students also had to be residents of El Paso and enrolled full time with a minimum 2.5 GPA. Scholarships will allow the students to pay off their balances and be able to register for the summer and/or fall semesters.

The presentation will take place at noon Tuesday, May 20 at the Undergraduate Learning Center courtyard.

Les Misérables — Discount Dinner Performance

What better way to celebrate UTEP’s Centennial than staging the internal smash-hit Les MisérablesLes Misérables holds the record for the longest-running musical in London’s West End and has become the most popular musical in the world.

The story centers around 19th century France where Jean Valjean is released from an unjust 19-year incarceration, but finds nothing in store for him but mistrust and mistreatment. He breaks his parole in hopes of starting a new life, initiating a lifelong struggle for redemption as he is relentlessly pursued by police inspector Javert, who refuses to believe Valjean can change his ways

Epic, grand and uplifting, Les Misérables packs an emotional wallop that has thrilled audiences all over the world. Its soaring melodies, including the hit song “I Dreamed a Dream,” have made Les Misérables a modern masterpiece.

The menu consists of french onion soup, chicken marsala, potatoes au gratin, french-style green beans, croissant dinner rolls, coffee, iced tea and chocolate eclairs.
