UT System Board of Regents to Meet at UTEP

The University of Texas System Board of Regents will meet at UTEP this week in conjunction with UTEP’s Centennial. The meeting will be held on the third floor of Union Building East in the Tomás Rivera Conference Center, 500 W. University Ave.

UTEP President Diana Natalicio will make a presentation on the University and its Centennial Celebration during the Board’s open session meeting on Thursday, Nov. 6 at 8:30 a.m. During the presentation, President Natalicio will invite the Board to accompany her to view the transformation of Centennial Plaza. Media will be accompanied by UTEP Public Information Officer Veronique Masterson to the viewing area for video and photo opportunities. Media is asked to arrive promptly at 8:30 a.m. or before.

Campus Spotlight:

UTEP Chorale Performance to Benefit El Paso Holocaust Museum

The UTEP Chorale will perform Verdi’s Requiem: Resistance and Redemption at Terezín – A Holocaust Story with the El Paso Symphony Orchestra this Saturday, Nov. 8, at the Plaza Theatre.

Tickets for the performance are available at epso.org and all proceeds go toward the El Paso Holocaust Museum’s maintenance and mission of advocating peace and tolerance.

The performance will include a dramatization and recreation of the process that composer, conductor and pianist Rafael Schächter went through in staging Requiem for Nazi officers at Czechoslovakia’s Terezín Concentration Camp during the Holocaust.

Footloose

A stage musical based on the hit movie about a city boy who moves to a small town where dancing is forbidden, Footloose comes to The University of Texas at El Paso’s Dinner Theatre.

The menu is chicken parmesan with angel hair pasta, julienned vegetables, garden salad with house dressing, snowflake dinner rolls, iced tea and coffee, and apple crisp a la mode with a caramel topping.

Ticket prices for Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday dinner performances are:

$41.50 for adults;

$39.50 for UTEP Faculty, Staff, Students and Alumni Association members, Groups (20+), children (4-12 years old), non-UTEP students and military;

$31.50 for UTEP students.

There is a limit of four tickets per UTEP faculty, staff, student and Alumni Association member ID and per military ID. There is a limit of one ticket per UTEP student ID.

Tickets are available at the UTEP Ticket Center and at all Ticketmaster outlets in El Paso. Charge tickets by phone by calling the UTEP Ticket Center 915-747-5234 or the Ticketmaster Charge by Phone Line at 1-800-745-3000.

The UTEP Dinner Theatre’s facilities are partially accessible to the disabled; however, tables 27 through 51 are not accessible.

“Get Reel” Film Series — What If

The “Get Reel” film series continues with What If. Rated PG-13 and starring Daniel Radcliffe, Zoe Kazan and Megan Park, the movie starts at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6 in the Union Cinema.

The film is open to the public. General admission for individual films is $2, and $1 for UTEP faculty, staff, students and alumni with valid ID.

At the concession stand, guests can buy various bargain-priced snacks to enjoy during the screenings. For instance, a three-item combo that comes with a 12 oz. can of soda, popcorn and a hot dog is available for just $5. As part of the Centennial Celebration, the cinema is offering a refillable popcorn cup for an initial price of $2.50; each additional refill is only $1.50.

The UTEP Union Cinema is located on the first floor of the Union Building East on the UTEP campus and is ADA accessible. All films will have closed captioning.

Centennial Museum

Centennial Photo Contest Exhibit Opening and Awards Presentation

Throughout 2014, the Centennial Museum and Welcome Center has presented the Centennial Exhibit Series, showcasing a variety of exhibits dedicated to the first 100 years of the University of Texas at El Paso.The final exhibit in the series is an interactive exhibit showcasing the entries and winners of the Centennial Photo Contest. The exhibit will open with a public reception at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8.

The Centennial Photo Contest was open to UTEP students, alumni, faculty and staff. Participants were able to submit photographs in variety of categories, including: UTEP Landscapes, Student Life, UTEP Traditions, Arts on Campus, Centennial Celebration Events and Athletic Events. The first round of judges chose the photographs to be included in the exhibit while the second round of judges chose the winning entries.

Those winners will be announced at the exhibit’s opening reception on Nov. 8 at the Centennial Museum. The event will include refreshments and live music. The exhibit will be on display through Jan. 15, 2015.

Judas Priest Redeemer of Souls Tour 2014

Metal icons Judas Priest unleashed their 17th studio album, Redeemer of Souls, July 8 and announced a supporting tour with dates running throughout October and for most of November. Steel Panther will be special guests.

Percussion Ensemble and Pandemonium Steel Drum Concert

The UTEP Percussion Ensemble and Steel Drum Orchestra Pandemonium will present their fall concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10 in the UTEP Fox Fine Arts Center Recital Hall. The UTEP Percussion Ensemble will feature contemporary percussion chamber compositions. The internationally renowned Pandemonium Steel Drum Orchestra will present entertaining calypso music. Both ensembles are under the direction of Professor Larry White.

Tickets are $5 for general admission; $3 for seniors, military and students; and free for UTEP students, faculty and staff.
