UTEP President Diana Natalicio was conferred an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree at Northeastern University’s 115th commencement ceremony May 5, 2017 in Boston.
President Natalicio was presented her degree along with Sir Lucian Grainge CBE, chairman and CEO of Universal Music Group, and Myechia Minter-Jordan, president and CEO of the Dimock Center.
“These visionary leaders have displayed passion, commitment and entrepreneurial spirit at the forefront of their fields,” Northeastern President Joseph E. Aoun said.
During the ceremony, Northeastern University Trustee Katherine McHugh lauded President Natalicio as a “pioneer for access to learning, champion for knowledge creation, exemplar of higher education leadership.”
President Natalicio will deliver the commencement address at her alma mater, Saint Louis University, on May 20. She will receive an honorary Doctor of Science degree after her address.
“Dr. Natalicio is intimately familiar with the complexities of students from marginalized groups accessing education,” said SLU President Fred P. Pestello, Ph.D. “She has successfully undertaken the task of building meaningful, long-lasting, mutually beneficial relationships with the surrounding communities.”
She has previously received honorary doctoral degrees from Victoria University (Melbourne, Australia), Georgetown University, Smith College and the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo Leon.
