The El Paso-Juárez community has responded enthusiastically to the announcement of Pope Francis’s visit on Wednesday, February 17. To enable the participation of residents on both sides of the border, the Catholic Diocese of El Paso has requested use of the Sun Bowl Stadium on the UTEP campus for a live feed broadcast of the mass which will be celebrated by the Pope that afternoon in Ciudad Juárez.
To manage anticipated pedestrian and vehicular traffic and ensure the safety and security of our students, faculty and staff, UTEP will close on Wednesday, February 17. Only critical facilities support personnel and the UTEP Police Department will remain on duty. Those personnel are asked to check with their supervisors regarding work schedules. The University will resume normal operating hours on Thursday, February 18.
In consultation with UTEP Faculty Senate leadership, Friday, May 6, which was originally scheduled as a study day (Dead Day) prior to final exams, has been designated as a class day to fulfill the Spring 2016 semester’s required instructional time.
