What: The University of Texas at El Paso will present its plan to enhance a two-block stretch of Hawthorne Street near campus.

When: 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, 2015

Where: UTEP’s Mike Loya Academic Services Building, Rooms 131 A and B.

Information about planned enhancements along Hawthorne Street from Rim Road to Crosby Avenue will be shared during a Dec. 17 open house at The University of Texas at El Paso.

The project’s goals are to improve the safety, mobility and aesthetics for pedestrians and bicyclists who use the street that connects UTEP to the Sunset Heights Historic District. The work involves new ADA compliant curb ramps and crosswalks, sidewalks on both sides of the street, repaved lanes, pedestrian-level lighting, shared bike lane markings, a new irrigation system and landscaping, and the relocation and replacement of water and sewer lines. The University plans to break ground in spring 2016 and complete the job in fall 2016.

Representatives from UTEP’s Department of Planning and Construction will be available to answer questions and accept comments. The meeting will be conducted in English, but the University will accept requests for language interpreters or other accommodations at least two business days in advance of the event.

For interpreter requests and more information, call the Department of Planning and Construction at 915-747-8139.
